  • L1A eligibility as a senior manager from Canada

Am I eligible for L1A as a senior product manager from Canada? Hoping to get some thoughtful advice on my situation.

    My personal information:
    • canadian citizen
    • 25 years old
    • bachelor degree in business (top canadian university)
    • parents are both green card holders (E2 visa route)

    My company’s information:
    • has american and canadian entities
    • has (3) american and (1) canadian offices
    • products and services are sold in us only
    • 100 employees and growing
    • VC-backed startup (>50M in funding)

    My job information:
    • joined as a product manager in may 2020
    • owning same strategic area of our product since joining in may 2020
    • senior product manager since sep 2020
    • part of hiring team since sep 2020
    • have had (3) direct reports since april 2021
    • (1) direct report is a product manager, (2) are data analysts
    • I’ve always held many indirect reports. At any time there’s usually 15+ resources working against my strategic area (engineers, designers, writers, marketers, etc.)

I believe I’m a fit for the L1A visa as a manager not executive and would greatly appreciate more opinions.

I like this visa because it is very fast to obtain as a canadian, has few restrictions, and has a path to permanent residency. I’m planning to move to NYC because my entire family is in the US now and my company is set to have more growth in our US offices than our Canadian office

You do sound like a great candidate for L-1A. I think your opinion is correct about you being more suitable for a managerial application rather than executive. It sounds like a personnel and a functional manager can both be a viable option for you. Just make sure your petitioner or their attorney pays close attention to make the distinction and file accordingly. Good luck!
