  • L2 - Marriage certificate requirements for foreign nationals married in India

    Hi,

Both me and my partner are Nepali passport holders working and living India. I would like to seek your help to get clarity over a question related to eligible marriage certificate documents for L2 visa processing for my wife.

Q: For the proof of marriage document for L2 VISA application, Will our Certificate of Marriage(Under Hindu Marriage Act 1955) issued by the marriage registrar of the Government of India be considered valid ? We do not have a marriage certificate from the Nepali govt. I will apply for her L2 VISA in a US consulate located in India.

From my understanding, the marriage certificates issued by the marriage registrar of the Indian Government are valid for L2 visa processing of Indian Nationals, but wanted to check if this is also equally valid for Hindu Nepali nationals too for L2 & if any other additional document may be requested by the consulate after interviews.

    Thanks,

Marriage certificates are basically issued at the location you living & got married. So Indian certificate will work.

      Thanks !

Can you also confirm if USCIS/U.S. consulates could request any other document for additional evidence apart from the valid marriage certificate ?
