I have a valid L1A stamped in my current passport. I am getting citizenship of Canada so wanted to know what would happen with my current L1A, do I need to just re initiate stamping in my Canadian passport or do I have to completely renew my L1A petition? Please note the country of origin passport where L1A is stamped does not have dual citizenship. Please advise.

Hi,
As per my knowledge Yes. But, you will need to discuss about this Immigration Attorney to make sure.
One thing I will need to say is, As per consulate general of India in Canada,
The Indian Citizenship Act, 1955, does not allow dual citizenship. It is a punishable offence under the Indian Passport Act, 1967, to apply for an Indian passport, continue to hold an Indian passport, get an Indian passport re-issued or travel on an Indian passport acquiring foreign citizenship. Extant rules prescribe penalties for holding Indian passports by foreign nationals.
Under Indian law, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), who have acquired foreign citizenship are required to surrender their Indian passports to the nearest Indian Mission/Post immediately after acquisition of foreign citizenship.
Even after acquiring the Canadian citizenship, the Indian passport can be used to travel for 3 months from the day of getting the Canadian citizenship. The grace period is only for such cases where foreign citizenship has been acquired but a foreign passport is not available to the person. It is also mentioned that it is illegal to travel on an Indian passport, where a person has obtained a foreign passport.
So, Just imagine whether you can use visa stamped in the Indian passport.

rkk09 I understand the severity of using the Indian passport after the Canadian citizenship is acquired. But my question is more related to the transfer of the L1A visa from Indian passport to Canadian. Do I need to go through the interview and appointment process again or its a more simpler process?

uscisplsapproveme Lol, I am aware of that. The CBP officers will not just stamp my Canadian PP. I was looking for answers/share experiences from someone who was in a similar boat as me.
