Wife's surname in L2 US Visa

My wife name before marriage : SURNAME-A KAVYA (She is using this name everywhere).

After Marriage, in marriage certificate it was mentioned as "SURNAME-B ANIL and SURNAME-B.KAVYA maiden's name SURNAME-A.KAVYA got married". (Both her married and maiden's names were mentioned in certificate)


Now my wife wants to continue with her maiden name only in passport and VISA which is SURNAME-A KAVYA. So please let me know will it be a problem during VISA interview/travel as in our marriage certificate her married name was mentioned as SURNAME-B KAVYA.

Kindly please provide your inputs.

Answer: No. You will not have any issues. When you do passport renewal, you can go with new revised name. And when you go for visa stamping next time, with the help of renewed and corrected passport, it will be processed.

Thanks for the response. Actually, we are in India and first time planning to move to US. Hence going to apply Visa and renewal our passports. So my wife wants to apply with her maiden name in new passport and VISA which is SURNAME-A KAVYA.

But in marriage certificate her married name mentioned as SURNAME-B KAVYA. Hence we wanted to understand if there will be any issue in Visa interview/travel by going with these names as below.


New Passport: SURNAME-A KAVYA

New Visa: SURNAME-A KAVYA

Marriage Certificate: SURNAME-B KAVYA (Married name) & SURNAME-A KAVYA (Maiden name)
