L1 Visa Question

I am on year 5 of my H1. My H1 expires in August 2011.

I have a couple of questions here:

- My company is not going to do the GC. But can they change my visa from H1 to L1?

- If I get another job, can they give me an L1? If so, do I need to return to India before I get the L1?

- I heard that for an L1, a company has to have a location in India. Is that true?
