  • L2 Visa - Name difference between Passport and VISA

    I am a Malasiyan citizen and the Malaysian passport would normally have only "Name" column in the passport page. There won't be separate columns for First/Given name (or) Last/Surname.
    Name: xyz abc

    When i got my L2 visa stamped first time, in VISA i got it as;
    Last Name: xyz abc
    First Name: FNU (First Name Unknown)

    It was supposed to be like LastName: abc and Firstname: xyz

    Now that as my visa got expired, i have applied for new L2 visa and I have given the same LastName: "xyz abc" and FirstName: FNU, to be in consistent with my previous visa.

    Is there any problem in continuing with this naming convention here after in VISA or GREEN CARD application?

    Please advise on what need to be done in this situation.

    Awaiting for your reply.

    Thanks in Advance !

        You can continue that way or have your country's passport reflect a first name and last name and go with that approach. If you plan on becoming a PR, get the FN LN listed on the PP as an endorsement. Indian consulate does it. Not sure about yours.

        I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
