  • When to apply for L2

I got my L1 stamped 2 days back and we want to apply L2 for my husband. Is it better to apply after I reach US or before that. Ideally we would want to travel together.

---- If you want your husband to travel with you then he should have a visa stamped on his Passport to travel to the US (prefereably L2)unless he has some other visa already stamped on the Passport

----After coming to the US on l2 visa he can then apply for a EAD to work in the US

You both should have gone for the visa interview together. When you got your L1 approved, he would have got his L2. There will be very less questions when the dependents go for the visa interview with the primary applicant.

He will have to fill the DS-160 to schedule a visa interview for L2. When that gets approved, he can travel with you. Here are the required documents.

        Time for EAD

        Hello Seniors,

Can anyone please clarify if one has to wait for EAD approval to start work on L2? Or can start working with the acknowledgement for applying EAD?

        Thanks in advance.

You need to have the EAD approved before you can start working.

My query is more on when he should apply for L2 visa as in - will it be better to wait for me to go to the US or before that. Also, will his L2 interview have any effect on my L1?

Your spouse can apply for L2 Visa anytime after you get the L1 petition approved. You could have gone to the interview together but now he can apply anytime.
However, your spouse cannot enter the US if you are not present in the US. So he can enter the US with you or after you.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
