L1-A visa extension in TCV - Urgent query

Hello All,

My L1-A visa (first tranche of 2 yrs) would expire on Jan 05th 2023. My firm is planning to file the extension but my attorney asked if I have any plans to travel outside the US in the next 3 months (Canada / Mexico) so I can apply there for extension as they feel it's faster and hassle free rather than filing for one through USCIS which they mention has chances of RFE etc.

Wanted to understand if this information is correct or anyone has had experiences of visa extension in Canada / Mexico?

What do you want to extend - your visa or your petition or just I94?

Petition you cannot extend outside USA - it has to be filed with USCIS.

Visa you cannot extend within USA - you've to go out & get new stamp.

I'm looking to extend my L1-A visa which is expiry on Jan 05 2023. My firm's attorney gave me two options, one to goto a Consulate in Third Country or file one with USCIS.

Visa is not extended, rather it is renewed/reissued.

If you really not in need to go outside USA, you can continue to live & work in USA without need of a new visa (visa is merely needed for entry into USA).
