  • Can I hold L1 and L2 at the same time.

I am currently holding L2 VISA, have not traveled yet. However I need to apply for an L1 VISA from my company. I have few doubts can someone answer these please ?

    1. If I am to get my L1, then will they cancel my L2.
    2. Can I hold both VISA’s at the same time.
    3. Also can I apply for L1 (change of status) after going to the US ?

Thanks in advance for all the help.
Any and all inputs are appreciated.

You have to choose one over the other. If you are in the U.S. when you switch, it will be a change of status. If you happen to be abroad when converting, it will mean obtaining a visa abroad before entry.

      1. If I am to get my L1, then will they cancel my L2.
      >>> That totally depends on the VO. Most of the times the L2 will get cancelled when you get the L1 stamped.

      2. Can I hold both VISA’s at the same time.
      >>> If both visas are valid, then yes. In such case, when you enter U.S, you need to be careful when visa you show at the POE. You cannot enter in L2 and start working for the L1 employer (or) enter in L1 and be at home without working.

      3. Also can I apply for L1 (change of status) after going to the US ?
      >>> Yes. You cannot work until the COS gets approved. In case of L1, it is advisable to enter in L1 rather than applying for a COS in U.S.
Not a legal advice. Use of this information is strictly at your own risk.
