H1b to L1B conversion

Can any one please let me know if H1B to L1B conversion is possible? If I convert what are the implications? Will I have to go out of US and come back for conversion? Will I be able to convert with out my H1b expiration?

Never heard of anyone who want to do a COS from H1B to L1B. Is there a specific reason why you want to go for a COS from H1B to L1B? Why can't you work for that employer in H1B itself? H1B has a 6 years validity whereas L1B has only 5 years.

MY spouse also want to work. It is not possible on H4. If I convert to L1, on L2 it is possible.

My h1b expires in 6 months, do I have to wait till it expires before applying L1
