L2 spouse can work without needing an EAD. An EAD does not bring any benefit. The problem is needing a valid L2 I-94 to work. Since the L1 status has already been extended, with a new L1 I-94, one solution is for the L2 to leave the US and re-enter on the basis of their L2 visa and the new L1 I-94, and they will be admitted until the expiration of the L1 I-94.
This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Thanks for your response.
The problem here is if we go outside of US and re-enter then we need to have visa stamped for L2 right to get I94 till L1 I94 expiry.
Is it advisable to go to canada for L2 visa stamping, so that we will get valid I94 also.
Any suggestions on this would be a great help
