  • L2 Visa & Name on Marriage Certificate - URGENT!!

    Hi,

I am Ruchika Grover and married to Rohit Bhalla and on my marriage certificate my name is written as Ruchika Grover Bhalla.

On my passport and every other document my name is reflected as Ruchika Grover.

I am currently in US and want to aply L2 visa for my husband.

Please tell me how to approach.

    1. Is bride's maiden name suppose to be present on marriage certificate?
    2. Is there a way to get name changed on marriage certifiacte?
    3. Shall I be required personally to get the name changed?
    4. Shall I get an affidavit stating that name on passport & name on marraige certificate belong to same person?

    I am confused. Please help!!

    Thanks a ton!!

Please tell me how to approach.

      1. Is bride's maiden name suppose to be present on marriage certificate?
ANS : In India most of the times Bride name changes after Marriage .
So its not mandatory/necessary that your old name should be there in the Marriage Certificate.

      2. Is there a way to get name changed on marriage certifiacte?
ANS : Yes you can get your name changed in Marriage Certificate . Just go to the registrar Office and get it done.

      3. Shall I be required personally to get the name changed?
ANS : it all depends on the Registrar i.e How honest he/she is!!!!!.
As per the rules - both husband and wife should be present for the issue of Marriage Certificate. But I have seen a case where Marriage Certificate was issued by the registrar to the Parents (as both son and daughter-in-law were in US)

      4. Shall I get an affidavit stating that name on passport & name on marraige certificate belong to same person?
ANS : Yes you can get it done.

      So If I were you ;
I would have applied for L2 Visa for the husband with the existing Marriage Certificate (If the time is less) and with an affidavit as mentioned in point 4.
as per me chances are less that L2 visa will be rejected just because you have husband;s surname in the Marriage Certificate. And in ur case I don;t think that there is a drastic name change

      So best of Luck...

      Thanks and Regards,
      Abhay
