Travel to India during L1 B visa extension

My L1 B Visa is valid till Mar 14th 2011. I have I-94 and Petition End Date till Mar 3rd 2011. I have applied for L1 B visa extension and I am planning to visit India for a month starting from 25th of Dec 2010 (and will be back by 25th Jan 2011).

1. Is it Ok to travel while my visa extension is in progress?
2. If my visa approval is pending till I return, can I enter US with my old visa?
3. If my visa is approved during my stay in India, should I go for stamping to enter US again?
4. Do I need to carry my visa application receipt to travel?

>>> Not advisable to travel when the extension is pending with USCIS. The extension might get denied. Even if it gets approved, you will end up with two I-94 which will cause all sort of confusions on determining when your status will actually expire. If you are in a hurry, go for premium processing which will get you a result within 15 days.
