Has anyone here had experience transfering from Ireland -> USA on an L1B Visa?

If so, I'd be really interested in the process and how it worked for you. I'm in a very large multinational company at the minute, based in San Francisco but with offices all over the USA, so I do believe thats the 'main criteria' you need for the L1B visa. But is there any catches? Is it not a bit... dangerous to mention to your manager you'd like to relocate? I'm really unclear of how all this works but I know that it's quite a common thing in tech, and software dev especially.

Does my manager need a reason for me to relocate? Do I need to be a 'specialist' that can't be hired in the USA? I've seen various things like this online and some people say it's bs and some say it's not.
