Successfully done L2 Stamping in India with L1 I797 Approval Notice

Hello All,


I would like to share the experience of my L2 stamping done in India with the L1 I797 Approval receipt.

The reason I am updating this info is that there is no such reply in immihelp where people have been asked for the L2 stamping in India when L2 extension is pending with USCIS and L1 extension approval received..


There is no need to wait in the US for L2 extension candidates whose spouse received I797 approval notice.
They can visit to India and do Visa Stamping in India and come back to the US and start working with updated i94 (L2S).


Currently, the average time for an L2 extension is around 9.5 months.


List of things I did…

1. Complete DS160 for a new L2 Visa application
2. Schedule an appointment at Chennai VFS in USTravelDocs (It should be dropbox)
3. Travel to India 1 week before the Visa dropbox date
4. Visit to Dropbox center at Chennai with the following documents
   1. DS 160 confirmation
   2. Visa Appointment confirmation
   3. L1 applicant I797 approval receipt (original and photocopy)
   4. L1 applicant Offer/Employment letter (where designation and Salary will be mentioned)
   5. Photo (as per the specification)
   6. Passport
   7. I129S copy (Old and New) of L1 candidate (original and photocopy)

In case you and your spouse both traveled together for stamping. Then no need to physically go to the Visa Center, only L1 (primary applicant) can go and submit DS160 and other documents for both (dependents).


The above process took 10 minutes in Visa dropbox center as dedicated counters were there for L1/L2 dropbox.

We have received the passport in 1 week (We opted for Premium delivery)
