  • Reasons for L Visa to be denied?

Hello everyone, I am applying for an L tourist visa at the DC embassy. I think I am a pretty straightforward candidate (I have an invitation letter from my tour agency, I'm not Asian, etc), and I have completed the application and snagged an appointment. The appointment is three weeks before I travel, so I think I should be okay with getting the passport back in time... unless anything goes wrong. So I am trying to over-prepare and get things right the first time.

Can anyone help list reasons their L visa has been denied or they have had to come back / stories about whether they had to make a whole new appointment for a small mistake or if the embassy let them come back later that day / things I should bring just in case / etc?

    I already know I need:

    - Appointment confirmation page

    - Printed application

    -
Application confirmation page

    https://vlc.onl/
    - My passport

    - Copy of my passport (what's this thing about copy of visas? I've never had another China visa, but I have an e-visa for Vietnam this summer and have had other e-visas and visas-on-arrival in the past... also old European student visas on my previous passport)

    - Invitation letter

    Thank you so much!!!

Here are some reasons why L visas have been denied:
    • Insufficient proof of ties to the home country, such as employment, property ownership, or family ties.
    • Insufficient funds to support oneself during the trip to China.
    • A criminal record or history of visa violations.
    • Concerns about immigration intent, such as a history of overstaying visas or applying for visas to multiple countries at the same time.

Here are some stories about people who had to come back to the embassy after their L visa appointment:
    • One person forgot to bring their passport.
    • Another person filled out the application incorrectly.
    • Another person was missing a required document.

In most cases, the embassy will allow you to come back later that day to fix the mistake. However, it is best to avoid this by being as prepared as possible for your appointment.

Here are some things you should bring just in case:
    • Extra copies of all required documents.
    • A passport photo.
    • Proof of funds, such as bank statements or a credit card statement.
    • Evidence of ties to your home country, such as a letter from your employer or a copy of your lease agreement.

I hope this information is helpful. Good luck with your visa application!

    Here are some additional tips:
    • Be polite and respectful to the consular officer.
    • Be honest and truthful in your answers.
    • Dress professionally.
    • Arrive on time for your appointment.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask the consular officer. They are there to help you.
