  • Visa expiry date is lesser than PED for L2 visa

    Hi
I'm a L2 visa holder, my husband is a L1B visa holder. We are yet to travel to US. We have got our visas with different visa expiry dates.

My husband's ( L1B) expires in August 2026 and his PED is on same month whereas my visa (L2) expires on Dec 2025 itself but I have same PED i.e., Aug 2026.

    My questions are
    1) How can I extend my visa expiry date?
    2) Is it common or just a mistake in printing ?
    3) We still have 45 days to start our travel so can we do anything here in India to change this?
    4) If so, how and how long will it take?
    5) Or should we leave it as it is and proceed the process in US?

Please help us to get a clear idea of what to do
Thanks in advance for the help.

I don't know the reason why they chose that visa expiration date, but US visas are solely for entry. The visa expiry date doesn't matter as long as you don't need to enter the US during that time after Dec 2025. In fact, the visa can expire next month and it would not matter for your stay until Aug 2026 if you don't need to enter the US again.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

      Thanks for your valuable feedback,
The VISA is needed for only travel to US, the period of stay is depends on I-94.

Incase, if I am given with the same period of expiration date in I-94 document (early expiration) , Is it possible to extend the date ?

I was advised by my colleagues that, if I94 is expiring within my VISA expiration period, I can travel near by countries (like Canada) and get in back to US to receive the new i94 stamping. This is possible only with valid VISA.
Correct me if I am wrong..!

An L2 should be admitted for the same period as the L1, unless their passport expires earlier. If you are not admitted for the same period as your husband, you can get it corrected.
