Hi there,
Hopefully you can help me answer a question that I cannot seem to get a straight forward answer to.
I work for a US Multi-national in Ireland and around 5 years ago they asked me to go on an assignment in the US for a few years. At the time I applied for and received a three year L1 visa, however, the assignment extended to a term of 3 years 8 months This meant that I needed to renew my L1 visa and at the time I received a second three year L1 visa or a three year extension.
I have been at home now working for the same company now for the last 18 months. Recently, I have been approached about taking another assignment in the US with the same company but I only have approximately 11 months left in my second L1 visa.
Is it possible for me to apply for a third L1 visa or do I now have to apply for a green card to return to work in the USA? Before I left America to return to Ireland, a HR representative indicated that if I left the US for a period of 2 years I would be able to restart the entire L1 visa process from the beginning meaning that I would be eligible for essentially a first L1 visa. Is this correct?
I would appreciate any information that you might be able to provide on this situation and any advice that you can provide on the matter.
