info required for L2 visa

I am currently in US on L1B visa. My spouse is a student with F1 visa and my dependent as of now. After his course completes, we want to opt for a L2 visa for him for stay in US.

1) For getting a L2 visa stamped he will have to go to India? By any means is it possible to transfer F1 visa to L2 visa?

2) If no (i.e he needs to go to india), then will that be possible after MBA course completion (for which we have valid F1 visa)? OR we can get L2 visa stamped any carry on last few weeks of study parallely?

You can apply for transfer to L2 status within the itself at any time. Once he travels out of the U.S., he will need L2 visa stamped before allowed to come back in.
