L1B 5 years limit questions

Hi
I have a question regarding 5 years stay limit of L1B visa. With my first L1B visa I stayed in US for 3 years. Then I went back to India, worked for 6 months in the same company. I applied a new L1B visa and it was granted for 3 years. The I94 was also given for 3 years when I came to US. I am in US for 1.5 years now. But both my visa and I94 for second visa are valid for another 1.5 years.

Which one takes precedence?
- I94
- Rule that says a person cannot stay in US for more than 5 years with L1B visa
