L1 VISA extension

Hello, I need following information -
Currently I am in USA on L1 Blanket petition. My VISA is going to expire next month 14 OCT, 2011 but I ( and my family - L2 ) have I 94 till 2nd Sep, 2014.

Do I need to apply for the VISA extension to continue to work here? is it different than blanket Petition extension?

You are allowed to stay and work in the US as long as your I-94 date.
Whenever you leave the US after your Visa expires, you will have to get another from a US embassy/consulate abroad like before in order to return.
