  • Separate L2 visa extension if L1 extension approved

    Hi,
I am in US on L2 and my visa expiring on 17th Nov 2011. My spouse's employer had filed an extension for his L1B visa and we have received the WAC receipt number but there is no indication in the documents for me/my name.
    I have following questions-
    1. does US consulate send a separate document for l2 extension too?
    2. do we need to file an extension for L2 or it gets extended by default with L1?
    3. What documents we need to submit for L2 visa extension.

    Thanks
    GV

You have to file a seperate application for L2 extension, it is not granted automatically and you have to pay. You need to fill out form I-539. You can download it from USCIS website. There are instructions on what documents are required on the website.

L2 extension should be filed before your current I-94 expires. Otherwise, extension of status will get denied. You don;t have much time. Better eFile the extension now and send the documents to USCIS. If communicated properly, the employer could have filed both L1/L2 extensions together.
