adopting child from India while on L1 in USA

Hi,
My wife and I are planning to adopt a kid from India and get the child with us while we go on a short trip to India in next couple of months. I am currently on L1 B and my wife is on L2 VISA, It is already 2 Yrs for us in USA and my Visa is going to expire in 2012, I might get extension of another two year. Is it possible to get the child with us? What all documentations do I need to provide. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
