I am a dentist that graduated from a est. US dental school. I currently work and own a office in Canada and am interested in buying a office in the US. I was wonmdering if the L1a visa would work for me. I would have 5 employees in Canada and 5 in the US office. How difficult would it be to get the L1A and proceed to a green card. I am Canadian citizen.

L1A visa requirement and converting to green card
I am a Canadian citizen. I own and operate a Canadian dental office with 4 employees. I am thinking of purchasing a US dental office with another 4 employees. I would like to know if I would be approved for a L1A visa on the grounds that i would keep both offices open and running. My goal would be to move to US with a green card in as short a period as possible while keeping my Canadian office. Would this satisfy the US immigration dept in order to approve me for a L1A visa? If after that approval, could I apply for a green card within a year? or 1.5 year? Someone mentioned to me that you need to have at least 6 employees in the US office for the L1A to be approved? This is not a new venture but the transfer of a existing office of 30 years. Would it help if I was to purchase the existing corporation that has been established for 30 years.? The seller is going to become a employee for a couple of years and all his staff is being kept. It is not a new start up business but established with a gross revenue of $450K each year for the past 3 years. What is the downside to getting the L1a and comparing it to a H1B visa? Do I need a immigration lawyer to do the L1A or can I do it myself? I have done TN visa myself when I was told that the Immigration dept. was not easy to deal with. Any help would be appreciated. Can anyone supply me a consultant or lawyer that is fair. You can email me bruce.shaw@ymail.com Thanks, Brue
