  • B1 - Valid, L1A with previous employer (not travelled) - Applying for L1B

I hold a valid B1 (travelled to US for 3 days in the year 2009). I also got L1A from my previous employer which I never used it. Now my current employer is applying for L1B. Your help on the below is much appreciated.

    1. Tips / suggestions in facing interview will be helpful
    2. When I resigned my earlier job, I had requested my old company to cancel my L1A visa. They took my passport and returned few days later. But I did not get any letter as a proof. Also no where in the visa (in my passport) it is mentioned as cancelled. Does this mean that the visa is still active? What problems will I face in the interview or what are the things I should take care of?
    3. I am planning to shave my head (religious ceremony) and will that create any problem in the visa interview and my subsequent travel to US?

    Thanks.

    Regards,

Considering recent trends, questions will be about your specialized knowledge and previous experience with the current company. There is a good chance of denial in case of blanket petitions. Individual petition or H1B is recommended in such a case. But there is no harm in trying with the blanket petition either.

Nothing. That is completely immaterial. There was no need to cancel the Visa. In fact, it could even have been used with current employer's petition to travel to US.

Significant change in appearance can create problems in travel. But nothing that can't be countered by keeping before/after photographs. Also, it is better if you use the photograph with shaved head in your Visa application.

    Thanks.

    See above.
