Blanket L1 expiry date vs I-94 date

Hi,

I have blanket L1 visa valid till May 2012. But mine and my dependant's I-94 has date till Nov 2014.

By May 2012 I will be completing 3 years in US on L1 visa.

Is it leagal to stay on L1 status till May 2014 wihtout applying for an extension.

Can my dependant apply for EAD now, if so will she get the approval for 2 years from now.

Plese advise.

Blanket L1 expiry date vs I-94 date

Stay in US is determined based on your I-94. So its perfectly legal for you to stay till your I-94 validity. Also, your wife can apply for EAD too. Only thing you would need to think about is that after May 2012 if for any reason you or your faimly have to go to India, you/they would not be able to come back without getting a fresh stamping. This is my opinion, please do consult experts too.
