passport renewal for L2

my passport expires in july 2012, i wish to get it renewed. (valid visa till aug 2013)
but i dont have our marriage certificate with us.
is it possible to get passport renewed,

if i opt for not putting spouse name in passport, will it still require the marriage certificate?


if no i have no choice left to go back to india n get it renewed

passport renewal for L2

Is the passport renwal for L1 or L2? If L2 then how come the spouse got L2 without having marriage certificate and spouse name in passport? If it is passport renewal for L1 holder, its not mandatory to get spouse name included in passport, neither it is mandatory to have marriage certificate. This is my opinion, please do consult experts too.

My son's pasport ran out way before his L2, we sent the passport and forms back to UK and had it renewed (a new passport). We had to carry both the expired passport with the visa and the new passport until we need a new visa also, then new visa went into the new passport.

My wife's passport is due to run out in 2012, from what I read on UK passports, we do not need to send any other documents other than the passport and the renewal forms required.
