Change in Marital Status

Im in US now on L1B visa. I will be travelling to India shortly for my marriage, After marriage I will be applying L2 for my wife..

The marital status on my passport is Single. Should this be changed to Married to process L2 and travel back to US? Please let me know

Not required. Marriage certificate is what is important.
