Rule for duration of stay after extension is denied

Folks,

I have gone through the USCIS Customer Guide for extending your stay in the USA, link below -

In the above, I found a FAQ on I-94 getting expired before extension decision and legal duration of stay while you are waiting for either acceptance or denial.

However, I want to know clear rules on what if, I submit my extension 5 months in advance and it gets denied and my current I-94 is still valid for a couple of months?
1) What are the rules for legal duration of stay in this case?
2) Do I need to pack-up and leave ASAP ( ASAP being how many days)?
3) Or can I continue to stay till my I-94 is valid?
4) Can I continue to work and stay till my I-94 is valid?

I have gone through the forum with no clear answers. Some threads said 10 days, some said 180 days, some said till current I-94 is valid.

I would really appreciate an answer (along with references to USCIS rule if possible).
I apologize if this has been already asked before.

You can continue until your current valid I-94 expiry date unless the extension denial specifically mentions removal.
