  • Which Visa for Mother to Travel to US

I am in a process of Getting my L1-B (Blanket) stamped (Visa Interview date to be taken). I am facing a huge dilemma as I am not sure how can my mother travel along-with me. I can't live my mother Alone in India (I lost my father recently) and travel to US.

Is it possible to get my Mother as my Dependent on L2 Visa. If not then on which Visa she can travel with me.

PS: B2 would allow her to stay in US only for max 6 months. My assignment in US is going to be long-term. However if it can't be long-term visa for my mother, then I wouldn't like to leave her back in India and travel to US for work.

    Kindly suggest/help/guide.

    Regards, Anupam

    >>> You cannot get a dependent visa for your mother. Only your wife and kids can apply as your dependents. Your mother will need to apply for B2 (tourist) visa. B2 is for tourism. Unless you can prove that she is visiting U.S as a tourist, the chances of B2 getting approved is less. Once approved, she might get a10 year multiple entry U.S B2 visa. She won't be able to stay more than 6 months in a stretch in B2 visa. She will have to leave U.S before the end of 6 months and re-enter after few months.

PS: B2 would allow her to stay in US only for max 6 months. My assignment in US is going to be long-term. However if it can't be long-term visa for my mother, then I wouldn't like to leave her back in India and travel to US for work.
