H4 to L1

My wife is currently in USA with H4 visa.

She was in USA earlier on L1B visa working through her company at an onsite client location . Her L1B visa has expiry date as May 31 2013.

She has not resigned from the company but is on a long leave.

She now received and offer from her company to work onsite on L1 visa.

What is the best option for her to get back to L1B visa?

Does she need to leave the country and re enter ? Or Does she need to fly back our home country and re enter USA with L1B.

Best option is to travel to an adjacent country (Canada or Mexico) and return. Remove the H4 I-94 from the passport before she returns, so that she will get a new I-94 (L1).
