Adopting child in India while on L1 visa in US

I am on L1 visa in US.
We are planning to adopt a child in India, and bring him/her here.

Can someone guide us on the steps, documents needed, etc?

Can you suggest what would be best course of action for me?
Should I go back to my native country, adopt the child, and apply for a freesh visa for me, wife and adopted child ?

The visa for the child will not get approved unless you have lived with the adopted child for at least 2 years. Do consult a good immigration attorney.
