can one apply for L1 visa if one already has an L2 visa...also if L1 visa gets stamped, then does the L2 visa get automatically rejected or one can have both the visas L1 and L2.Also, if L1 is rejected, does L2 still remains valid.

Irrespective of the current visa that you are having if you are eligible for L1 you can apply for it anytime. But you can only be in one status at any given time while in US.

If you are in US you can only be in one status at a given time so if you are currently in US and on L2 then the company will have to file a COS from L2 to L1 and once COS is approved you have to work only with L1 employer and cannot quit that employer. If you want to go back to L2 then you will have to file for a COS from L1 to L2 again.

If you are outside US and already have a L2 stamped in your passport then to enter US on L1 you would need to go to the US consulate wherever you are, along with the L1 documentation and fees and attend the interview. They most probably will cancel your existing L2 before/while issuing you the L1. There are chances that existing L2 gets cancelled and L1 also gets denied at the same time. No one can predict as it totally depends on the VO. You can request not to cancel L2 in case they reject L1 but again totally depends on the VO. Also, even if , though most unlikely, if you have both L1 and L2 valid in your passport, when entering US you have to declare on which visa are you entering US and that will be your status.

This is my opinion not legal advice.
