  • F1 student and pregnancy/maternal leave

    Hello all,

I have recently found out that I am pregnant. I am very tired and exhausted these days. I can't do my homework and feel extremely sick. I called DSO in my school and she said I can't take any medical leave. She said that they would send me home otherwise.

Could you please advise if I can take medical leave due to pregnancy and for how long? If you know trustful information from official websites, could you please share here? I would greatly appreciate any help now.

    Thanks!

i know that you can take a medical leave if you are sick and it is authorized by a doctor. but you are not sick, you are pregnant. a couple of my international classmates also got babies in the US. they all were enrolled full time, and did not take any time off other than maybe two weeks after delivery.

unless you are sick and going to class will endanger you or the baby i doubt your school will grant you a medical leave. try to work with your instructors. ask if you can make arrangements with them if you miss a class once in a while because you were not feeling well.

i've never been pregnant but i know from pregnant friends that the tiredness may get better. make sure to have a good diet and a regular sleep schedule.
