Hi, I got my green card in last August and what I understood from the immigration officer at JFK airport is that during my first 2 years after that I've been issued the GC I won't be judged for traveling abroad for more than 6 months or even a year, after the first 2 years I must be settled in the states, and this is when i shall not travel for more than 6 months, can someone confirm this info please ?

What the IO meant was that they understand that when they first get their greencards, people need to take care of issues abroad where they used to live, and might need to travel often and for extended periods of time to wrap up their old lives before moving fully to the US. So, if you explain your need to travel often, they might be more lenient at the beginning of your status. However, this is not always the case, and different IOs can have different interpretations. This includes the IO who will interview you for your naturalisation. If you really want to show intent to preserve your residence, think about getting a re-entry permit if you expect to travel a lot, including for over 6 months at a time in a row.
