i got married to a us citizen in 2002 and applied for a change of status. I went for my interview on the 28th of July 2005 and the lady said I will be notified by mail. A few days later I got a request for further evidence...they wanted my immigration physicals of which I mailed on August 03 and haven't heard anything since then. The problem is that I have never had my receipt number. I actually didn't know such a number existed until a couple of weeks ago. My lawyer says he doesn't have it either and there is nothing we can do but wait. And recently went to the Social Security Office to get a replacent card and when the lady pulled out my info she said the records indicate Iam a permanent resident. Does that mean I was approved and never notified or its just a mistake? Also the lady took away my i-94 after interview...is this normal?

That means you are a permanent resident, and your documents got lost in the mail, go to the district office and enquiretake all documents to prove your identity when you get there.
