Form I 864 Join Sponsor

Hello,

I am an American citizen and I am filling out the I 864 Form for my husband. I am using a Joint Sponsor (My father).
My dad is married, but he is separated right know. We are not sure about what should he put on Part 5 Sponsor's Household Size: If you are currently married, enter "1" for your spouse. My father doesn't have any financial responsible to his wife, they are not know living together anymore. They are in the process of the divorce right now.
Should we include a letter explain the situation?
I don't think we should count his wife.

If dad is still legally married, he should report his status as married and count mom.
