Hi,
I was on an F1 visa for over five years in the States before getting married and changing my status to F2 in October 2006. I'm now visiting India and need to get my F2 visa stamped in my passport.
I have already paid the visa fees at HDFC and will be logging into the vfs website to set up my interview when my password activates in two days.
Here are some problems I’m encountering that I hope someone can answer-
1) I wanted to see an estimate of when I would be able to get my interview date. When I chose ‘spouse of student’ as the visa type on the form, it refused to let me choose the US in order to pick the last state in which I had lived for six months.
On the other hand at the bottom of the page it says that I will be penalized for writing the wrong state of residence. I have only been in Delhi for three weeks and the last state in which I lived in for six months is California. What should I be doing?
2) I have my I 797 approval form, but at no point in the required list of documents is this mentioned. When do I submit this? Will they even look at it if I do?
3) I have the I 797 approval form but the woman I spoke to on the phone at the consulate said that it does not guarantee that my visa won’t be rejected. I share the lease on our apartment, will be filing taxes for the part of the financial year when I was on the OPT with F1, have a bank account, social security card and other stuff, so I find this a bit nerve-racking. How likely is it that I may be rejected?
I really hope someone here can answer some or all of my questions.
Thanks,
MP
