If it backfires, might cause a problem.

If you're an USC, then it's forgiven!

The "intent" of "defrauding" the USCIS immigration system will not be forgiven.

An unintentional overstay will be forgiven to an USC's immediate relative, but not the intentional misrepresentation at the POE.
