DV 2003

Dear Immihelp,

I was randomly selected to apply for an immigrant visa through the DV 2003, however because I am in the US, I am eligible to adjust status, my current status is G-4, I work with an international organization.

My G4 has expired a year ago, however my office will not renew the visa unless I have plans to travel abraod. Therefore I am currently in status and my I-94 reads "DS"

As I understood, that the Advance Parol is filed with the I-485 for those who can not come back to the US in case they travel out side the US.

My question is:
Do I need to file the AP and EAD with the I485
knowing that I can apply through my office to renew the G4 visa if I wish to temporary travel outside the US.

My 2nd question, How long does it take to get the GC.

Since you have won the green card, i would suggest you go to your home country to adjust your status. Heres why ?

I-485 are taking much longer than a year to be adjudicated and by september 30,2003, if your case is not completed you will lose the green card visa. you must make sure that INS can complete your application within the time period from the time you apply. If you dont hear anything by september 30, 2003. Thats it you lose it. If you go to your home country and apply there, you get a piece of paper for which you can return to the US, after 2 or 3 months your plastic card will arrive at the address you used in your applications. I would not waste my time adjsuting in the US. I have done extensive research on this because i am also one of those winners. Even INS said that going home will be better for me, since they are back logged and cannot promise anything. Hope this helps
