Hello:
Can someone please answer my Qs…
my situation is...
I am planning to pursue ONE year Master's program at Univ of Southern Mississippi. This program is usually 1 year program and has a total 10 courses (or 30 credit hours). 6 (or 18 credit hours) out of these 10 courses will be taught online and the remaining 4 courses in classroom. I am planning to start this program in Spring-2013 (Jan-2013) and complete it by the end of Fall-2013 (Dec-2013).
Right now I am on H4 visa. I am planning to change my visa from H4 to F1 visa. Please let me know if USCIS approves this 60% online classes Master's program in regards to OPT (Optional Practical Training). I am interested in applying for OPT after this ONE year Master's program. I am planning to take 2 classroom courses and 2 online courses in both Spring-2013 and Fall-2013 and 2 online courses in Summer-2013 so that i can complete my Master's program in one year. I have some questions and it would be really helpful if you can answer my questions. I am not able to find answers for these questions from Univ. of Southern Mississippi.
My Questions:
1. Am I eligible to apply for OPT (at the end of the this Master's program) since 60% of this program is taught online?
2. For a student to maintain full-time F1 visa status, how many minimum and maximum number of classroom or online courses needs to be enrolled?
3. If I enroll in 4 courses (2 classroom and 2 online) in Spring-2013 on H4 visa and apply for change of visa from H4 to F1 by Mid-Dec-2012 and based on the current processing times, if I get my F1 visa sometime in Mar-2013. And finish my Master's by end of Dec-2013 (If I finish/pass all my courses, comprehensive exams etc by Dec-2013). Would this become a problem for applying my OPT (at the end of the Fall-2013, by following all the OPT rules/regulations) - Since I will not be on F1 visa for 1 year (F1 status will then be from around mid-march-2013 thru Dec-2013)?
4. My H4 dependent visa just got renewed for 3 years… and I need to get my passport stamped for re-entry into USA. If I go to India for F1 visa stamping ( changing visa from H4 to F1) and if my F1 gets rejected then can I apply for H4 immediately or would there be any problem? If so, what kind of problems am I going to face and how to resolve them.
5. is it ok to go to Canada for change of visa/status from H4 to F1? If so, how long does it take (processing time) to get visa issued/approved?
6. any other suggestions???
I would appreciate your response. Please reply soon.
Thank you in advance.
