I'm an international engineering undergraduate student who's I-20 will expire in August 2013. I have failed two classes that are required for my major (one of them 3 times since I dropped it too late twice and received an F). My GPA is currently 2.8. I would retake the two classes now before the expiration of my I-20 but the classes are only offered in the fall semester (2013). I will have completed all other requirements for my major by the time my I-20 expires except for 7 credit hours for the two classes. My failure has partly been caused by personal problems that are not documented (or "documentable") . I have been in status since I began my studies in the fall of 2008.
If I were to explain myself to the international student (and/or academic) advisers, is there any chance that my 1-20 can be extended for one semester to allow me to complete the two classes?
If my I-20 extension should be denied, what options do I have?
Has anyone had any such experience before?
