Travelling when OPT is pending or Before OPT start date

Hi,

I am a graduate student, graduating on 6th May 2013, I have filled my OPT and also received the Receipt for the same, the current status is Pending and my OPT start date is 1st July 2013.
My problem is, unexpectedly I need to travel to India from May 25th to June 8th (Appox 15 days) and I still done have a job offer.
Will there be a problem for re-entry to US on my arrival?

Read the F student FAQ . Traveling is not recommended when you don't have a job in hand. Also, is your F1 Visa valid?

Yes, my F1 Visa is valid. Looking through the FAQ's I found this

"2.N. Can I reenter if my request for OPT is pending?

Yes, you may reenter to search for employment."

my next question is what if my OPT is approved when I am in India!
as the question answers only about PENDING OPT!

Travelling when OPT is pending or Before OPT start date

There is no hard and fast rule about the officer not letting you in at immigration while you are on opt. More than likely yes you should be ok. But again it is a risk and there are no surety.
