plz..need urgent help regarding 'to be expired' passport!!

Hi all,

Can smone help me out in my confusion ?. I have a passport which is due to expire in 2016. I have got phd in US university which is for 5-7 years. While filling the visa for it the website says that a person needs ''A passport valid for travel to the United States with validity dates at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States''. Now since my passport will expire (2016) before my phd ends (2018) will i have to renew my passport now or I can wait till 2016.

That is not required for Indian citizens.

For a long-term visa, this probably won't be a problem.

My passport was also going to expired in the last year so i renew it and before i took suggestion from one lawyer. I think you should have to take suggestion from lawyer.
