Hello,
I am a student from Ontario, Canada who is going to the States to study. I have been sent an I20 form and additional papers from the college, and would like to know how I can arrive in the States earlier than the thirty days (the standard time that is allowed prior to attending class) to get settled into the city sooner and see friends, etc. I would be arriving on a tourist VISA and then I will reenter Canada to initiate my I20 student VISA. I would be arriving about three weeks than the usual 30 days prior which is allowed. Would really just like to know how I could do this, I mean what would be the safest way going about this? Do I need two visas in order for this to work? Could my college issue me something to allow me to arrive earlier? Will the border office most likely have any issues with me telling him I'm arriving on a tourist VISA and will initiate my I20 later?
And also, if I'm Canadian do I need to do a VISA interview for my I20? I've heard numerous times Canadians do not need to do an interview, but always like double checking.
Thanks in advance!
