F1 Approved but want to delay starting

I was on H4 and just got F1 approval but i dont want to start for FALL13 instead of that i want to start from SPRING14.

Do i need to start from FALL to keep my status valid?

What is considered start date for F1?

CAn I defer my I-20 to SPRING 14 keep my status valid?
