  • F-1 rejected

rejected for F-1 visa and the US consulate also cancelled the tourist visa that I previously had which was still valid for 9 years. Don’t understand why the consulate would cancel the tourist visa when the F-1 visa was not even issued. Any thoughts or clarification on this from anyone.

Very sorry to hear of the F1 rejection. Such rejections are quite common by some consulates, and the reason may be that those coming to the U.S. are considered at high risk of using the visa to gain a foothold and stay in the U.S.

The subsequent cancellation of your visitor visa was probably because your F1 application was perceived as an "intent to immigrate," (though no an immigrant visa).
