  • MBA from top 10 schools but NO OPT, Valid F-1 for 4 years, options for work autho

    Hello,

My friend is a recent MBA grad from a top -10 business school with 3.6 GPA. His program was global in nature and hence he was out of US( travelling 4-5 different countries) for more than 1 year. As a result,he did not get OPT in US.

He would like to know some options for getting work authorisation in US:
He says that it's a chicken and egg problem. Nobody will say it on face, but unless a person has a work authorisation in US, no Top/large/ small company will hire him in a good role.(100-120k MBA jobs). In past he has worked for Fortune -500 companies in his home country and has Engineering undergrad.

Currently he had graduated from program and back in his home country India. He plans to attend graduation ceremony on tourist VISA/ Graduation wavier.

He would like to evaluate following options:

    1. H1 B- it's a lottery + probability of approval from his home country ( India) is very low. He doesn't have employer lined up,and IT consultant seems like a dicy bet for business related jobs.

    2. L1- He will have to work outside US for one year and no gurentte so they would transfer him to US.

    3. Change of status to F1 with CPT- He has a valid F-1 VISA for 4 more years. Even though he may come for graduation on tourist VISA,he is contemplating joining another educational program which would allow him 40 Hour CPT.
He is looking to understand pros and cons of such work study program and if he can change status from B2 to new F-1 or on existing valid F-1 stamp to this new F-1. He is also concerned that such kind of option won't allow him to work in a true MBA level job.

    4. Marrying a US citizen- he has been talking to a girl/ long instance who is US citizen and same cast/ region etc. He is wondering if marriage to a US citizen is easiest path to getting a green card in US. However,he would like to date and get to know the girl before scoring this last option. He would rather prefer getting his work authoirzation from employer than this way.

    5. Any other options for him?

Thanks for your time and help.
