Probation status on F1 - Need help

Hello,

I have a friend who is on probation as he did not perform well in his first semester. Though he tried to do well in the following semester, with the grades that he is going to get this semester he is unable to make his GPA to 3.0. He is very much worried about his future. Is there a way he could switch to other university and start afresh or will he be sent back to his home country after the grades for this semester are out? Please help
