How long can I stay in the no mens land at JFK airport?

Hey, so i recently received am F-1 visa. I can only enter the US 30 days before the start of my program which means i can enter the 18th of July the earliest. The flights are way less expensive if I fly into JFK on the 17th of July but that would be a day to early to go through customs. So my question is: Would I be able to stay in the transit area (the area right after you left the plane) and wait for 10 hours and go through customs then? Hope anybody can help me.

You can't really wait like that.

You may not even be allowed to board the plane in the first place, if you try to board too early.

Talk to your airline staff or call JFK directly.
